Can fiction kill?
Vicky Simmons’s life was supposed to be relaxing after she moved back home to the coast of Maine, but instead of baking bread and gardening she’s been chasing down killers and it’s time to stop. Vicky is ready to slow down again and vows to start focusing more on her roses than solving crime. That is until she reads the new serial in the paper over breakfast, describing a brutal murder that takes place on a cliff top road just above a beach. Only to find herself moments later, walking Coco and Mr. Pug, face to face with a dead body on the sand. The murder victim described exactly as he was in the story…
Once again death has come to Glen Cove and this time Vicky and her friends won’t stop until they find the killer before they get away with murder.
I received this book for free from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
This is the second book that I have read in this series. While it most definitely may be read as a standalone, if you want to get into the dynamics of the characters and their relationships I would read it as a series.
This book starts out running and does not slow down the pace. Vicky immediately gets involved in the murder investigation. Cash the local police chief seems to rely on Vicky quite a bit and I cannot decide if I want him or Michael, the reporter for Vicky’s love interest. I think Cash may be the one for Vicky. The author put quite a few red herrings in this book and I found myself falling for a few of them.
I love the setting of Glen Cove. The premise of this book was very clever and the murder itself very difficult for me to solve.

I like that the author’s red herrings tripped you up a bit! I love a mystery that keeps me on my toes. I’ll have to add this series to my list. Thanks for the great review, Cindy 🙂

I love when a book keeps you guessing! This one sounds like it worked quite well, and I’ll probably have to give it a go 🙂

That cover is adorable. The covers are probably my favorite thing about cozy mysteries lol

Mine too Karen!
So glad you enjoyed this one, Cindy! It looks like a fun read. Thought I’d hate to find a dead body at the end of my morning walk!

Me too Angie!
I love a good cozy, and this looks fun. I am concerned though about the romance. I don’t like cozy mysteries with love triangles or conflicted romances that drag on and on.

This is a light romance so not too heavy. I agree too heavy is not good in a Cozy.
Ooh, I love cozy mysteries! I only discovered them late last year and surprised how much I enjoy them with being a mostly YA reader and all. This sounds really well written and I love that it can be read as a standalone too, sometimes you just aren’t int he mood to commit to an entire series. Looking forward to checking this one out. Brilliant review! <3
Thanks and it’s true you can’t always commit to a series.
Fun that it offered some twists and that she has a good thing going with the police chief. I’m trying to add to my cozy mysteries list so glad to see you think these are good.

It’s nice that you CAN read these as standalones, but I’m with you, I’d rather have the full series. I’m glad you liked this one. I love cozy mystery reads.
